Trevor Greene, Coach

Highline School District, Burien, WA (Greater Seattle Area), Executive Director of HR

2013 National High School Principal of the Year

Mr. Greene taught for 12 years, followed by three years in administration, before becoming the principal at Toppenish High School on the Yakama Indian Reservation in Toppenish, WA. It was at that point that he began working with The Breakthrough Coach. He credits his implementation of The Breakthrough Coach Management Methodology ™ for transforming his leadership from one of “reaction and survival” to that of a proactive instructional leader who truly enjoyed his job. TBC's Methodology enabled him to develop teacher-leaders and implement school-wide systems that expanded opportunities for the students. During his tenure at THS, the rural school (94% minority,100% poverty) achieved a 93% graduation rate, and, during his tenure, became the most decorated high school in Washington State – named a STEM Lighthouse School by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, twice honored as a state Golden Apple recipient, and presented with five Washington Achievement Awards.

Mr. Greene was selected by his peers as the 2012 Washington State High School Principal of the Year and, in 2013, received National Principal of the Year honors from the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). Following his national recognition, Mr. Greene was recruited for a one-year fellowship as a Principal Professional Development Specialist by the Association of Washington School Principals (in conjunction with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation), where he worked with K-12 principals statewide.

In the year prior to his current position in the Highline School District (adjacent to Seattle), Trevor Greene served as Executive Director of Instructional Leadership, where, in one year, he coached secondary principals to improve the district graduation rate by over eight percent.

Currently, he is the Executive Director of Human Resources in this large, urban district where over 95 languages are spoken across five municipalities. Trevor Greene earned his M.A. from Central Washington University (1998), and his superintendent's credential from Washington State University (2009).
