Kathleen C. Greider has served as the Superintendent of Schools for the Farmington Public Schools since May 2009. Farmington Public Schools is a nationally recognized, high-performing, school district located in central Connecticut. Ms. Greider’s collaborative work with the Board of Education, administration, faculty, staff, students, families and community has led to innovative improvement practices and programming aligned to Farmington’s Framework for Teaching and Learning (FTL), Vision of the Global Citizen (VoGC), Theory of Action (ToA) and core beliefs. The Farmington School District has been designated as a national P21 Exemplar District for innovative teaching, learning and programming, and Farmington High School consistently ranks as one of the top high schools in Connecticut. In 2019-2020, Ms. Greider was recognized as Connecticut’s Superintendent of the Year.

One key aspect of Ms. Greider’s leadership in Farmington has been her focus on instructional leadership. Using the principles of The Breakthrough Coach, Ms. Greider has built the capacity of her administrators as instructional leaders. In turn, administrators are focused each day on ensuring that Farmington’s core values are reflected in the district’s student-centered instructional design, and aligned to the VoGC.

Prior to her role as Farmington’s Superintendent, Ms. Greider served as the Deputy Superintendent of the Greenwich Public Schools in Greenwich, Connecticut. She established a leadership development program for her principals which included The Breakthrough Coach Foundations Course to both develop and enhance district-wide capacity building structures, and professional learning plans to support instructional leadership.

From August 2005 – 2007, Ms. Greider served as Lead Principal for Hartford Public Schools (HPS). In this role, she coached nine school principals and established leadership development routines to support instructional leadership. Prior to becoming Lead Principal, she was Principal of Hartford’s Dwight Elementary School which received national recognition, including a NCLB Blue Ribbon Award. As principal of Dwight, she implemented The Breakthrough Coach system with fidelity. Her focus on being in classrooms led to significant improvements in both the delivery of high-quality instruction and student outcomes.
